Why we recommend Pilzguru
Pilzguru provides a detailed mushroom map specifically for Switzerland, showcasing areas with good conditions for various edible mushrooms like porcini and chanterelles, for today and the next five days. It uniquely integrates cantonal collection rules directly onto the map, along with details on mushroom control stations and local mushroom events. This offers a comprehensive resource for both novice and experienced foragers. The app is accessible in German, French, and Italian, and is designed to function across all operating systems and browsers, making it broadly available.
Best use cases
Best for: Anyone in Switzerland interested in mushroom foraging who needs to quickly identify areas with good mushroom growing conditions. It is ideal for planning day trips to specific regions, checking local regulations before heading out, or finding nearby mushroom control points. Also useful for those who want to track their findings or save preferred locations for future reference without needing a constant internet connection for previously viewed areas.
Honest limitations
Pilzguru does not guarantee mushroom finds, as it only indicates favorable conditions rather than actual mushroom presence. While it states offline functionality for previously viewed areas, there is no active service worker. It focuses exclusively on mushroom foraging in Switzerland, making it unsuitable for other regions or general nature exploration. Information is based on conditions and predictions, not real-time mushroom availability.
