Does Calcumber work offline?

What keeps working with no connection

The whole notebook does. Calcumber runs the calculation engine in your browser rather than on a server, so variables, functions, unit conversion and the integrated thermodynamic fluid properties are all local. A plane, a plant floor with no signal, a train through a tunnel — the notebook behaves identically.

Your documents are local too. They are stored by the browser on your own machine, which is why they open instantly and why they open at all when you are offline.

Installing it so it opens like a program

On Chrome or Edge, open web.calcumber.app and use the install icon at the right of the address bar. On Safari for macOS, File → Add to Dock. On Android, the browser's Add to Home Screen. You get a window with no browser chrome and an icon in your dock — the full path per browser is the same as for any app here.

Installing is what makes offline reliable rather than accidental. An uninstalled tab may still work offline once it has loaded, but the installed app is the version that is meant to.

The part that needs a connection

Sharing. Calcumber can hand someone an editable link to a calculation, and a link has to be hosted somewhere — that step needs the network, offline or not.

Copying results out to Word or Excel does not: that goes through your clipboard, on your machine, and works with the connection off.
