Is Calcumber free?

Short answer

Yes. Calcumber is free to use and opens straight in the browser — there is nothing to buy before you can try it, and nothing to install unless you want an icon. It is a calculation notebook rather than a calculator: you write the working out, it computes as you type, and the sheet stays readable afterwards.

A notebook, not a calculator

A calculator gives you a number and forgets the question. Calcumber keeps the whole working out on the page: name a variable, use it three lines down, change it at the top and watch every result below update. Add a comment next to a step and the sheet still makes sense next month.

That is the difference that matters when the calculation has to be checked by someone else — or by you, later. The answer and the reasoning arrive together.

Units treated as part of the maths

Most tools make you strip the units off and hope you kept the conversions straight in your head. Calcumber keeps them through the whole calculation: give it an area in square inches and a weight in grams per square metre and it converts, checks that the dimensions are consistent, and refuses the ones that are not.

It also carries an integrated library of thermodynamic fluid properties, which is the kind of thing you would otherwise be looking up in a table and typing in by hand.

Getting the sheet out again

Calculations copy out to Word or Excel, and they can be shared through an editable link when someone needs to change the inputs rather than just read the output.

It also works offline once installed, which matters more than it sounds for anyone who calculates somewhere without reliable signal.
